The market
Overview of Polish Wind Energy Market
In comparison to other European countries, particularly the ones whose use of renewable energy sources is advanced, such as Germany, Spain or Denmark, Poland is only beginning its wind power adventure.
This energy source was practically not used in Poland at all before the year 2000.
Large areas of the country are characterized by favorable wind speed (5.5 – 7.0 m/s at the height of 50 meters) make Poland one of the most attractive wind farm locations in Europe.
Poland has also witnessed a substantial rise of interest of domestic and foreign companies in execution of wind power-related projects. According to the estimates of the Polish Wind Energy Association [PSEW] there are currently over 100 entities in the Polish market, that prepare wind projects or acquire investment areas, including subcontractors who develop wind farms and experts who draft environmental and energy studies, as well as designers and service companies.
Recent years have witnessed a substantial growth of the wind farm installed capacity in Poland. The dynamic development is confirmed by the connection of facilities with the cumulative capacity of 206 MW between 2007 and 2008. In 2009 the grow was even more dynamic (detailed data not available yet).

Business opportunities in Poland for Windustry
The support system for energy production from renewable sources implemented in Poland arouses interest of the largest global companies in the wind power sector. Renewable energy producers earn income from two main sources: from the sale of generated energy and from “green certificates” – proprietary interest arising from the obtained energy guarantees of origin.
The minimum electricity sale price guaranteed by the Energy Regulatory Office is equivalent to the median market price during the preceding sales year. In 2009 the price amounts to PLN 155.44 per 1 MWh. The median energy price per 1 MWh at the Polish Power Exchange [Towarowa Giełda Energii] on 30 October 2009 amounted to PLN 184.29, whereas in 2008 the median price of a guarantee of origin amounted to
PLN 241.05 per 1 MWh. Hence, the total sale price of renewable energy is higher than the average price in the European Union states.

Wind analyses
Usually construction of the wind farm requires prior examinations of the wind force to be carried out on the area where the wind farm is to be constructed. Typically such examinations take about 12 months and are carried out using one or more measurement masts. Such mast can be constructed on the real property provided that approvals/permits of relevant public administrative authorities are obtained, including without limitation planning permission for the measurement mast with a specified height and a permit of the President of the Civil Aviation Office.
